The photographs presented here were created between 2023 and 2026, a
period marked by profound social and political change. After years in which liberal values, openness, and confidence in a stable and secure world seemed self-evident, it has become increasingly clear how fragile these achievements are. Rights and freedoms are once again being called into question, while developments once considered unthinkable or long overcome are reemerging. It was against this backdrop that The Moon Is Under Water was conceived.

At the heart of the series are portraits. The photographs depict friends of the artist as well as artists, dancers, and other creative individuals. Many of the sitters are queer people whose diverse lived experiences and perspectives have significantly shaped the work.

The portraits are complemented by cityscapes that capture not so much specific locations as they do atmospheres and social moods. The series is intended first and foremost as a personal historical record. However, it also advocates for respect, tolerance, and a society that views diversity not as a threat, but as an asset.
